Summer Memories via Flowers

In my family we call this a resurrection lily. In the spring the leaves come up, and about three months later the flower blooms. These flowers make me think of Grandmother Hubbard and Aunt Judy.(Elizabeth Hubbard and Julia Hudson) Different sides of my family, but both grew them. Tim had a friend, Wiley Finney, who grew these flowers too. I've shared before that we pass flowers along in my family, and we received some bulbs from my relatives and from Wiley which is one of the reasons I think of these dear people.

Lycoris squamigera is the official name for this delicate flower. Some people call this a magic lily, but I like resurrection better. Three months. Three days.

“Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day.” (1 Corinthians 15:3-5)

Even more than remembering family and friends, I think of Jesus when I see resurrection lilies.

Good Friday

Today is Good Friday, the scariest day of the Gospel story for Jesus' disciples and followers. Right after the last supper we move to Jesus' arrest and trial and crucifixion.

I've recently discovered artist Lorenzo Lotto a painter from Italy in the 1500s. On this Good Friday, I'd like to share some of his artwork.

In the busy days of life, let's don't forget Jesus' amazing sacrifice.

Stepping into 2016 with Boldness

I'd been considering what word to focus on in 2016 for a few weeks when I came across this scripture.

"In Him we have boldness and confident access through faith in Him." Ephesians 3:12

I've devoted a lot of time to writing and studying the craft of writing the last few years. I even worked up the courage to attend a couple of conferences, but I've begun to wonder if I'm doing enough. As I contemplated this verse I questioned if I'm stepping out enough with boldness. The stories I write are Christian fiction.

I want my stories to honor him, and they won't honor him if they don't get published. Every time I write a story, I learn more. So what's the next step? I'm not sure, but my hope is in God. As I humbly wait on him, I pray to be bold when he presents an opportunity to present my stories to the right person.

What about you? Are you boldly proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ? I'd love to hear your story.

Son of God the movie

Our good friends took Tim and me to see Son of God the movie Friday night.

I thought it was an amazing movie, but I like any movie that brings me closer to God. While watching this, I was once again astounded at the great sacrifice Jesus made for me and for you.

I'll go through Lent this year feeling a little closer to God and more appreciative of his awesome love.

Here's the trailer, and if you have a chance please go see it.
